
Cookies Then, Cookies Now, Cookies Forever
Last week, Google was found to have “wilfully engaged in a series of anticompetitive acts”, thus violating the Sherman act.
In completely unrelated news, yesterday Google walked back its coming cookie opt-out, after already walking back their deprecation last year.
Now these things are un-related, but you know, if you assume that Google will actually be forced to sell Chrome, then it’s new non-Google owner wouldn’t be subject to the same constraints. And by leaving cookies alone Google is just leaving Chrome in good shape for it’s new owner, as opposed to benefitting themselves.
Assuming Google will actually be forced to sell…
